Jessie, our Darlington Darling, was adopted Sept 26, 2009.  It was love at first sight, this cute little black and white puppy being held by a little girl we met a local farm stand.  It was a beautiful early fall morning, my husband and I stopped to pick out some pumpkins and we saw her.  Well, actually my husband saw Jessie first, and went over to pet her.  The little girl and her Mom had just picked up Jessie and her siblings from transport to foster...well, when I saw Jessie it was instant love!  We already had a dog, Willie, adopted from a different rescue and frankly I never thought of having more than one dog at a time.  Jessie, AKA Kya changed that in an instant.  We spoke with Foster Mom at length, we wanted her!  She took our contact info, vet name and number and address. She went home with the promise of contacting us that afternoon...and she did. Kya came to meet Willie and Foster Mom did a home check.  A phone interview with the rescues president sealed the deal after vet references were confirmed.  Little Kya walked up to Willie, an 80 lb Shepherd/border collie mix, grabbed the skin around his jaw and hung on.  She was a little spitfire even then...we named her Jessie Belle (Jezebel) in honor of her southern heritage.  Willie was very gentle with her, although it took him a few days to fall in love with her.  He was a great big brother and taught her well.  Jessie is now the pack leader, she is a great big sis to her younger brother Roscoe, adopted a few months after Willie made his Bridge journey.  Roscoe is another rescue pup, from Lebanon TN.

Jessie opened up a new world for me...every dog we’ve had was an adopted mixed breed.  And we donated to each rescue group long after they were adopted...but with Jessie it went from donations to being part of the Darlington County Humane Society team.  For the past 6 years  I have been one of the voices on the DCHS rescue and Bridge FB pages.  Some days are filled with incredible joy, some days with heart ache and tears.  Rescue work is hard, but the joy of seeing dogs and puppies going to their forever homes is very rewarding.  I am their voice, along with the entire Darlington team. I am proud to be part of this incredible team, together we stand strong and make miracles happen.
